Extraordinary meeting of OIC begins in Pakistan with Iran’s presence

Islamabad, IRNA -- The 17th Session of the Emergency Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states aimed at reviewing developments in Afghanistan kicked off on Sunday in the Pakistani capital Islamabad with the participation of various delegations, including the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The emergency meeting of the foreign ministers of the Islamic countries began in the hall of the National Assembly of Pakistan in Islamabad.

The opening session began with a speech by the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the foreign ministers of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan is also scheduled to deliver the final speech at the meeting of Islamic Foreign Ministers.

He previously wrote on his official Twitter page that the purpose of the emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is to express solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and a comprehensive consensus to help resolve the humanitarian crisis in the neighboring country.

Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian heading the high level Iranian delegation will share Iran's point of view on Afghanistan and developments in the region in the conference.

This is the first visit of Amirabdollahian to Pakistan since assuming the charge of Foreign Minister of Iran.

The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a few hours ago that the closing ceremony of the emergency meeting of the OIC member states will be held with a joint press conference of the Pakistani Foreign Minister and the Secretary General of the OIC.
